Yin Ruoning becomes women’s golf world No. 1

Tuesday 19 September 2023

China’s wunderkind Yin Ruoning, aged 20, became the world number one in women’s golf on 10 September after finishing third at the LPGA Queen City Championship.  Yin became the second Chinese woman to claim the world number one ranking after Feng Shanshan in 2017.
Supported by Amundi since 2022 when she was ranked outside the top 300, Yin Ruoning is one of the emerging young women players of the Amundi Asia Golf Team. Demonstrating outstanding talent and commitment to golf, Ruoning’s world ranking has soared over the past 18 months. After finishing in the top three at the Women's LPGA Portland Classic, Yin Ruoning reached second place in the world golf arena. She was then crowned number one by achieving another third place at the LPGA Queen City Championship on Sunday.

Yin Ruoning is sponsored as part of the Amundi Women Talent Program (“the Program”) launched in 2021, which provides financial assistance, visibility, and new sport opportunities to talented young women players from around the world as they compete in high-profile international tournaments. This programme is in line with Amundi’s commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.

Amundi Asia Team was formed last year, following the establishment of Amundi Europe and US teams, to support female athletes in a region in which Amundi has a strong presence. By partnering with rising young women golfers, Amundi is pleased to help them unveil their potential further. As of today, the Program sponsors 7 players in Asia, 10 in Europe and 3 in the United States.

Valerie Baudson, Chief Executive Officer at Amundi said:

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Ruoning on becoming world number one.  Amundi is proud to support her and to have her in the Amundi Asia Golf Team. Ruoning’s outstanding achievement demonstrates how women are shining in the world of sport. It is also a concrete example of how the Amundi Women Talent Program can unlock young women players’ potential and help them emerge on the international golf scene.  This bears witness to Amundi’s strong commitment to promoting diversity and equality.

Ruoning said:

As a young women golfer, my dream has always been to become world no.1.  I am grateful to be a member of Amundi Women Talent Program and to have been able to count on the support of Amundi during this journey.

Amundi has been involved in golf sponsorship since 2011 and increased its commitment in 2021 by becoming the title partner of the women's golf major, The Amundi Evian Championship for a period of five years.
